About Earthwatch Expeditions
Discovery. Adventure. Impact.
With Earthwatch Expeditions, you can make a difference for the future of our planet.
We take you deep into nature to do hands-on field research alongside leading scientists studying wildlife, ecosystems and environmental change around the world. In addition to this crucial fieldwork in the service of conservation, you’ll also explore the wild world around you—combining important research with inspiring nature encounters. Since 1971, Earthwatch has connected people with scientists worldwide, inviting them into the work of scientific discovery as they help gather data that drive long-term environmental studies, empowering them with the knowledge they need to conserve the planet. Each expedition is built around active scientific research led by experts at the forefront of their disciplines. Participants learn the questions guiding the work, the research methods, and how discoveries emerge through sustained investigation. The result is a deeper understanding of how to protect the natural world we treasure.
Participate in Hands-On Field Research
Through long-standing partnerships with scientists, Earthwatch Expeditions offers access to wildlife habitats, research stations and field sites that are typically closed to the general public. As part of a small field team, you’ll join researchers studying wildlife populations, ecosystem dynamics and environmental change. As a field assistant, you’ll record observations, monitor species and collect data that contributes to ongoing scientific studies.
Expedition teams are intentionally small so every participant can take part in real fieldwork. You'll learn research techniques, ask questions and be an integral part of the study. You might track wildlife, monitor nesting sea turtles, survey biodiversity, or record ecological data in landscapes ranging from tropical forests and ocean coastlines to Arctic tundra and African savanna.
Encounter Wildlife in Its Native Habitat
Earthwatch Expeditions offers exhilarating wildlife experiences as part of your direct participation in important conservation science. As a participant researcher collaborating with lead scientists and their teams, you'll work among wildlife in the context of ongoing field studies, gaining a deeper understanding of the ecosystems that sustain these species. You'll leave with unforgettable wildlife encounters and the knowledge that your efforts have helped support conservation efforts around the world.
