Alfonsina Hernande2025
Alfonsina’s love of nature began in childhood, inspired by her parents’ deep appreciation for mountains, forests and wildlife. Some of her happiest memories are of birthdays celebrated outdoors and hiking with her brother while her parents pointed out birds, trees and animal tracks. As she grew older, she joined a small mountaineering club and eventually became an assistant instructor for mountain courses. Those early years in wild places led her to study biology with a particular focus on birds.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s in biological sciences, with research experience in ornithology and participation in several scientific expeditions across Mexico. Her guiding philosophy is to stay closely attuned to guests’ needs, listening carefully, answering questions and making sure they feel safe, welcome and inspired throughout the journey.
As an Expedition Leader for Nat Hab since 2025, Alfonsina guides travelers through the monarch butterfly sanctuaries of Michoacán, Mexico. She enjoys sharing both the science and the sense of wonder behind the monarch migration, helping guests feel rooted in the quiet rhythm of the forest as millions of butterflies move overhead.
Beyond guiding, she enjoys photography, embroidery, knitting, growing orchids, hiking, camping and assembling puzzles—activities that nurture her patience, creativity and appreciation for the small, often overlooked details of life and the living world.
