Physical Requirements

At Nat Hab, we provide access to some of the most wondrous nature encounters the world has to offer. Many take place in destinations that are wild and remote, with varying physical demands and limited medical facilities. All trips may not be suitable for every traveler. In order to participate in this itinerary, travelers must comfortably and reliably be able to execute all physical requirements as noted below.

  • Visit 4 locations in 11 days

  • Includes multiple 2-3 night stays and a single 1-night stay

  • Several drives of 2-4 hours with stops

  • Two private charter flights and two scheduled flights

  • Very early mornings with long, full days

Walking & Terrain
  • Travelers must be able to hike 3 miles unassisted along a variety of terrain and should expect to walk a total of 2-5 miles on several days

  • Hikes typically range from 1-3 miles; travelers should expect 2-4 hours of physical activity daily

  • Terrain includes gravel, dirt paths, sand, rocky or uneven ground with inclines, stairs, and grassy plains; with the potential for stream crossings, ice or snow in West Altai

  • Most hikes are at a leisurely pace with guided interpretation

  • For hikes longer than 3 miles, shorter alternatives may be available; longer hikes may be offered for more active travelers at some locations

Transportation & Vehicles
  • Travel by Land Cruisers, private Cessna charters, and commercial flights

  • Most roads in Mongolia's remote lands are unpaved, unmarked tracks; it is common to drive over dirt, sand, shrubs, uneven rocks, mounds, small creeks, or pass through herds of livestock and Nomadic herders

  • Driving in West Altai will involve narrow, winding mountain roads with sheer drop-offs

  • Not appropriate for travelers using wheelchairs, walkers or canes

  • Travelers must be fully mobile and physically independent

  • While at our remote ger camps, there are no nearby medical facilities, and access to medical care may be significantly delayed in an emergency

  • During extended outings in the field or on long transfers, restroom facilities may be limited; your driver will arrange appropriate breaks along the way when stops are needed

  • Periods of limited to no cell service or internet access

  • Daytime temps range from 45–85°F, depending on location

  • Overnight temps are cooler, especially at higher elevations

  • Rain, wind, and snow are possible

  • Travelers should be prepared for all four seasons in a single day at higher elevations

  • Three nights at 5,200 feet elevation in West Altai

  • Four days of activities in elevation ranging between 5,000-7,000 feet

  • One drive will reach elevation of 12,000 feet
