Peter Ramsden
Pete’s fascination with photography began in a small darkroom run by his great-uncle Jim. That early spark turned into a lifelong pursuit of light, guiding him through more than a decade as a naturalist and expedition photographer. His career spans mountain, desert, rainforest and marine ecosystems across the UK, Europe, North America and the Middle East.
Specializing in wildlife and landscape photography, Pete emphasizes light, mood and emotion in his work. He prefers candid moments and storytelling frames—particularly during golden hour and into the night, where his experience with the aurora borealis and light painting come into focus. He’s led long exposure workshops in British Columbia that explore artificial lighting as a creative tool to evoke human presence in wild spaces.
As a Sony Alpha Ambassador workshop leader, Pete teaches advanced photographic techniques, including long-exposure and action photography, conservation storytelling and dynamic product imaging. He is also fluent in post-processing with Lightroom and Topaz, ensuring consistent, high-quality output.
Pete’s latest work includes product photography for outdoor gear companies, creating authentic, real-world visuals. He recently added Advanced Open Water Diver certification to expand his photography into ship-based expeditions.
When not guiding, Pete is often deep in the backcountry, splitboarding and mountaineering in British Columbia, or racing enduro mountain bikes and sailboats. Regardless of location, photography remains his tool for deeper engagement with the natural world—capturing fleeting encounters with wild places, light and life.

What Our Guests Say
Pete was fantastic! I came home not only with wonderful pictures of the aurora but a whole new appreciation for night photography. He taught me so much about how to use my camera and iPhone to take pictures at night. His knowledge of Churchill and the wildlife and culture was outstanding. I enjoyed learning about the Indigenous people of the area and have a new appreciation for them as well. I would definitely recommend him to others and would enjoy going on another adventure with him.
Pete is AWESOME! He was patient and was able to help with a wide variety of cameras. The guests had a broad variety of experience too, yet he was on top of it all. I was impressed by his knowledge of the area, the wildlife and the people of Churchill. Pete is a warm and considerate guide, and I look forward to going on another trip with him.
I know people tend to say, 'My guide was the best guide ever.' But in Pete’s case, it’s true! He knows so much about wildlife, the environment, and the area; he is a very knowledgeable photographer who shared his knowledge; and he was organized and punctual while also being flexible. Pete also has first-class interpersonal skills and spent time with each guest throughout the trip. He really made our adventure memorable.
